There are over 152 million blogs on the internet, with a new blog being created every half a second.
And that was in 2013. I’m sure by now, that number has at least tripled. Blogs are here to stay. We live in a digital world, where knowledge is power and lives in your pocket. There is a blog for every subject area and topic you can think of. Seriously. If you’ve thought of it, someone else has too, and they have written about it—on their blog.
Your audience is already reading blogs. And any good marketer will tell you that the best way to market your business is to go where your customers are—it’s less work that way. And that methodology certainly applies to blogs.
Here are 5 reasons blogging will help your business grow:
1. IT’S A GREAT WAY TO CONNECT WITH YOUR CUSTOMERS.
So you have a Facebook and Twitter account. Perfect. That was easy. But what kind of message are you sending to your audience? When used effectively, email newsletters are a great tool, but after that first open (and keep in mind, only 1 in 5 will actually open your email), where will your customers go to find the latest information? The answer is your blog. Blogging is personal, searchable, and interactive, and it lives on your website, so it’s the perfect medium for keeping your customers informed about what’s going on with your business or products. You then can automatically share your blog posts on your social media accounts.
2. IT’S A GREAT WAY TO FIND NEW CUSTOMERS.
When done right, blogging is also an invaluable marketing tool. Business that blog consistently generate significantly more traffic than businesses that don’t, with most of that traffic being new users. Business with blogs receive 67% more leadsthan those that don’t. Using email marketing tools in conjunction with your blog is great way of capturing those leads and turning them into paying clients.
3. IT’S FREE!
Yep. We use WordPress, and we love it. It’s built by hundreds of community volunteers, has incredible documentation and support, and you can get it setup on your website or domain in seconds, without spending a dime. Your only expense will be a domain (around $10/year) and a host (most plans start at a few bucks per month), but if you have a website, you already pay for that. The only thing that blogging will cost you is your time. But remember, your blog will work day and night, even when you aren’t.
4. SEARCH ENGINES LOVE HELPFUL, FRESH, RELEVANT CONTENT.
Search engines crave new content. The big two, Google and Bing, will rank your website based on how recent your content is. And freshness isn’t the only thing that matters—relevance and helpfulness are vital factors too. The more people that share and link back to your content, determine the authority of your blog. The more your post content that your audience actually shares, the higher you will climb in the ranks.
5. PEOPLE LOVE HELPFUL, FRESH, RELEVANT CONTENT.
Search engines aren’t the only content-hungry ones out there. Even though we , humans love content too. Think about it: when you want to learn about the latest happenings, what do you do? You Google it. Google does the leg work in 1/8 of a second, but what does it magically return to you? Blogs. And lots of them! And you click on these blogs and read them, because they are relevant to your question and help answer it. And that’s exactly what your customers do too.
It’s obvious that blogging is an integral part of growing your business:
- It connects you to your customers and helps you find new ones.
- It’s free and works for you even when you don’t.
- It generates traffic.
